Perched on an extinct volcano, this instantly recognisable fortress is a powerful national symbol and part of Old and New Towns of Edinburgh World Heritage Site. Its story is Scotland's story. http://www.edinburghcastle.gov.uk/index/story.htm
Edinburgh Castle is incredible, and the pictures below are but some of what we saw today. Especially impressive were the views of the city of Edinburgh, and the Scottish Crown jewels on display in the castle. I also enjoyed the Scottish National War Memorial housed in the castle. Scotsmen really know how to honor those that gave their life for Scotland and the UK
Engraved in stone in the memorial:
"the souls of the righteous are in the hand of God. There shall no evil happen to them. They are in peace"
"others also there are, who perished unknown. Their sacrifice is not forgotten, and their names though lost to us are written in the books of God"
